The Vinyl Countdown
Sampling laser cut vinyl
Ok, I promised I would share my findings on getting a laser cut vinyl for a couple of tracks, so here it is. Sorry about the title but I couldn’t help myself, I’m sure that play on Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’ has been used a million times, well it’s a million and one now.
I chose ‘One Cut Vinyl’ for a couple of reasons
They are in the UK.
The reviews were good. Not that many on Trust Pilot, but good.
Someone I was speaking to said they were good, and I trust their ear.
What I was not too interested in when I was searching was price, I was definitely looking for something with a usable quality. You will find out why once I open my box of goodies next week.
The details of the order were basic
The process was really easy, but I realised I paid GBP63.20 so you would have to go through the quoting process to see or contact them directly and ask. I was going to do it any way, so didn’t feel the need.
As this is not to be sold and for a specific purpose, I did not supply artwork for the centre label or the sleeve, so when it came it was a plain white label in a sturdy enough black card outer sleeve. The image below was just proving to myself I hadn’t accidentally ordered a 10”. Probably should have given them a clean before I took the photo but never mind. I’m pretty sure I got to choose the vinyl thickness and I chose 2mm. It definitely feels like a quality heavy vinyl. Just for info the right hand vinyl was a recent RSD purchase The Cult ‘Weapon of Choice’
So finally how does it play? Well you can find out in this dodgy video, I am no slick YouTuber, I do not like talking to camera but I did it just for you because we’re in this together, enjoy (or endure).
Yes your eyes did not deceive you, I did stitch an earlier clip on the end where the light was slightly different. Unfortunately the camera switched off early, told you I’m no slick YouTuber. Other info Dan is not our Dan(Percussion, drums and producer Dan), he is a totally unrelated but inconveniently named Dan. My comments around horror stories I’ve seen on YouTube videos are related to other lathe cut vinyl companies NOT this one, as I said, I specifically picked them because the reviews were good.

Anyway, next week on Batman, will the caped crusader survive the special delivery from the Joker in next week’s episode ‘What’s in the box????’
I can’t back that up, I’m not Batman, it will just be me opening a box of goodies to use with recording and maybe even some live stuff later in the year and letting you in on the results as well as hopefully an update on the recording of the final track for the album ‘Owl Theory’.
Look after each other, and hope to see you soon…
